Swing Swish Sway

Swing Swish Sway

2026, 6:55 minutes
single-channel digital video with sound
photo emulsion, nail polish, tape, 16mm film leader

This film uses emulsion lifting, contact printing, and pinhole imagery to recover a submerged history. It is inspired by mixed-race Filipina American Rose Bamberger, who rejected the political visibility of the Daughters of Bilitis (The Ladder) in favor of a “secret society” for queer joy. The film manifests her vision through the pleasure of playgrounds at night, and the shared acts of swinging, dancing, preparing fried chicken, and the soft knowing stroke of a paintbrush.
